Happy December, ladies! I just got back from Illinois yesterday, and though dressing for the Christmas season may seem a little premature, I’m already thinking about what to wear. Yeah, I know we have presents to buy and food to prepare and all that stuff…That’s all on the radar as well, but outfit planning is still important. You don’t want to be “uuugghhh”ing yourself when you see pictures of you on social media, right? And more importantly, you should feel confident when you’re seeing all the people you’re seeing over the holidays!
Technically, we do have over three weeks until the big day, but if you’re like me, you have a few celebrations early. And you travel. And you are picky about what you wear. And you hate the things you pack. And every occasion calls for a different type of outfit…am I right?
Because I’m just like my dad and LOVE Christmas music (the classics: Brenda Lee, Darlene Love, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams…), I’m calling today’s outfit (the first of a few I will be posting in the coming weeks) “I’ll Be Home for Christmas (and Will Be Sitting on the Couch).” This is an early morning, opening presents outfit. It’s comfy and cozy, but it’s not your tattered pajamas, either. Or in my case as a mom to an infant, this outfit doesn’t have spit-up on it from the night before.
I have been thinking about this type of outfit for a while, but when I had some down time yesterday, I looked through the J.Crew catalog and found this picture to inspire my cozy, opening gifts outfit.
The sweater and the jogger pants are not new pieces for me. You can read my posts about the sweater here
and about the jogger pants here
. I found the boot socks (they’re actually really tall, but I scrunched them down) at Old Navy for $4.50 on the evening of Thanksgiving. They are quite similar to J.Crew’s camp socks
, some I have been eyeing for a while. But I got the socks for a quarter of the cost, so I will count that as a win.
I’m loving these Sorel Out N About Glow Booties
for wintry weather. I quickly realized after moving to northeastern Iowa that a good pair of weatherproof snow boots was a necessity.
OUTFIT TIP: Think about your socks. If you just think about the shoes, you will take your shoes off once you’re inside and realize your socks are super old and fraying (not like I have experience there or anything…).
Accessories-wise, I have a pair of stud earrings on, hidden by the beanie. The beanie is so perfect for when you want to wear your hair down, but parts of it are not cooperating. Or if your hair is a little bit on the dirty side. As for other jewelry, you have time to add it later. The opening presents outfit should be unfussy, in my opinion. My suggestion (to keep it a little festive) is to go for a statement nail that will work for all of your gatherings.
Here’s a close-up of my Jamberry nail shields, still holding strong on day 8 after application. A holiday manicure post is coming soon!
