Using Style Blogs for Inspiration

I know outfit replication gets a bad rap when it comes to the ideologies that creative people follow, but honestly, I like reading a blog post that suggests an outfit formula and shows how to wear pieces I already have in my closet in a new way. I have enjoyed reading fashion/style blogs for quite some time, but especially now since I’m trying to shop my own closet for as long as I can possibly stand it, I’ve been turning to blogs a bit more to help me restyle my favorite pieces. That way, I can still feel like I’m wearing something new and exciting (to me, anyway).

If I had to pick my two favorite hot spots for style inspiration, I would choose The Mom Edit (formerly Ain’t No Mom Jeans) and Hello Fashion. I copy their featured outfits maybe more than I should, but when you find an outfit you like, why not try to recreate it? And if you really think about it, style blogs allow you to see looks that may seem a little risky for you as opposed to purchasing a risky piece and hating it.

After reading this recent post on The Mom Edit, I was inspired to look in my own closet and put an outfit together much like Shana’s. Unfortunately, I have several “matronly” cardigans in my closet, so I am looking to add longer, cocoon-shaped cardigans with a bit more weight to them much like the one featured in Shana’s post.

The greatest thing about this post is that all pieces were already hanging out in my closet. Yay for new budget-conscious me! This look is easy and quick to put together (chunky cardigan + graphic tee + skinny jeans + over-the-knee boots) but looks polished and intentional. The necklace (my favorite Stella and Dot necklace of all-time) is an added touch that keeps my look elongated and lean. And (as evidenced here), I can just throw my hair up (albeit a little sloppily) in a topknot and get right out the door! I actually wore this outfit earlier this week but wore my glasses with it, and as crazy as it sounds, the glasses added a different dimension to the outfit.
I would love to add a suede pair of over-the-knee boots to my shoe collection, but I’m going to trryyy to wait.
