Dressing for Game Day and Date Day: Sporty Casual featuring Black and Leopard Print

Since my husband and I both really like to watch basketball, we were both pretty pumped to score some tickets to last weekend’s game between the University of Northern Iowa and Wichita State, both of which are ranked in the Top 25. The atmosphere was just insane, and we both said it was the most fun we’ve ever had at a basketball game. But you know me…I had to do my outfit prepping beforehand and get mildly stressed about it!

What is a girl to wear to an afternoon basketball game? It was a date for us, yet it’s still a sporting event. I wanted casual and comfy with a little bit of personal style. I wanted to forgo the typical hoodie, jeans, and sneaks attire.
Here’s what I came up with…

I took my Nike UNI Panthers long-sleeved tee (men’s size small for my crazy long torso and the fact that all women’s athletic shirts are crop tops on me…but this one is sooo comfy) and added my quilted black vest from Old Navy. I thought about a jean jacket, but it looked like I was trying desperately to look cool (which is true in almost all cases but not what I was desiring…). The vest felt unfussy but broke up the humdrum-iness of the tee.
Instead of jeans, I went with my Old Navy Pixie Pants, which are really getting some wear these days. LADIES…really seriously consider buying a pair. I went with the long version of the pixie pants because cropped pants (as most pixie pants are a cropped/ankle length) usually don’t hit my leg in the most flattering of places. I did not say the word cankles but…
Instead of a sneaker, I went with a leopard print shoe. Though I could totally pair a slip-on sneaker or a flat with these, I knew we could potentially be walking out of the game into the beginnings of a snowstorm (that eventually dropped over 8 inches), so I opted for a leopard print ankle boot instead.
Yes, this outfit is still very casual, but I like the additions of the skinny pant and the leopard print. When you’re struggling to put a game day look together, if you remember nothing else from this post, add black and leopard print. Both are neutrals that can serve you well as you try to extend your outfit beyond the typical game day attire.
Want to dress up your college tee even more? What about dressing for a night game followed by a dinner/appetizers date? I have two more game day outfits coming your way in my next post! See you soon!
