Valentine’s Day has come and gone, but I hope you’ll consider giving your lip print top (if you followed my advice and current trends and purchased one) some more wear! I am not a “buy a sweater for Valentine’s Day only” person, so I thought a lot about how I could wear this sweater as I transition my wardrobe from winter to spring. When we Iowans are gifted some winter days in which temps push past the 30s, I will try to put the boots back in the closet and think (a little bit) of spring.
Here I styled my lip print sweater (seen in this post
, too) in a casual, on-the-go type of way. And I think I’ve come up with another mom uniform (or formula). No lip print? No problem. Here’s what we have, my friends:
Printed sweater + interesting cropped denim + brightly colored flat + cute large tote
Don’t tell me you haven’t been that person who wants to look like you’re put together on a weekend, only to get frustrated in your closet and reach for the leggings yet again. I want to help because I’ve been there. I am still there often, actually. So let’s break down the formula…
1. Start with a sweater with some type of print – plaid, polka dot, etc.
2. Add interesting cropped denim. I’m obsessed with destroyed denim right now, as I like that edgy vibe, but if you’re not into destroyed denim, look for a denim crop that is a little “off” or unique in some way to avoid major mom stereotypes. NO BORING CROPPED DENIM. I’ve also noticed recently that crops with some fraying just at the hem are all the rage. Perhaps that’s what you need to venture into the destroyed denim club.
3. Pick a brightly colored flat that complements the colors in the sweater. The color doesn’t necessarily have to be found in the outfit anywhere.
4. Add a fun tote. Embrace the tote, moms! I love a giant bag filled with my favorites AND Wet Ones, diapers, etc. I am SO over carrying a purse AND a diaper bag. With this cute tote, I was able to consolidate and not feel frumpy! I am loving my tote from Nine West, which was a Christmas gift. (If you’re petite, watch the sizing of your bag and don’t let the tote carry you instead!)
I’m also eyeing these beauties
from Old Navy and may pull the trigger when they go on super sale. But I can’t decide between blush and mint. Why is life so hard sometimes? (Kidding.)
